Following the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority (RDUAA) Board approval of the preferred Vision 2040 Master Plan alternative in October, your RDU team has been working diligently to finalize a new Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and outline the implementation strategy for new projects.
The ALP and all other supporting materials, including the thousands of comments and feedback we received from the public throughout the planning process, will be submitted to the FAA in early 2017.
This is a pretty big deal because the ALP will be used by the FAA to program future funding assistance, and to monitor our compliance with design standards and grant assurances.
Once the ALP is approved, we can begin the important work of preparing RDU for the future – starting first with replacing our most popular runway, 5L-23R, adjacent to Terminal 2. We will share more about the runway replacement soon.
This is an exciting time for your airport and our region as a whole. We are laser focused on ensuring we can connect you to the people and places that matter most and Vision 2040 will help us make that happen.
