Archer-Western Contractors underwrites USO of North Carolina for second year in a row
RDU Airport, NC – Members of the military traveling through Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s Terminal 2 this holiday season will receive a special gift – a temporary USO of North Carolina Center in the terminal’s ticketing area. Archer Western Contractors, the general contractor for the Terminal 2 construction project, is underwriting the temporary USO of North Carolina Center, which will open on Friday, Nov. 19.
“The USO of North Carolina is grateful to Archer Western Contractors for their generosity in providing the temporary Center in Terminal 2,” said Connie Inggs, director of the RDU Center. “During the holidays, the number of military members and their families traveling through RDU greatly increases. The USO of North Carolina in Terminal 2 will allow us to provide them with a quiet place to relax before their flight departs.”
The Terminal 2 location will feature large screen televisions, computers, a children’s play area and small dining area.
“Last year, the USO in Terminal 2 was a huge success,” said Randy Grubb, senior manager, Archer Western Contractors. “It means a lot to us to be able to provide this facility to our military service members and their families.”
A permanent USO of North Carolina Center will open when Terminal 2 is completed in early 2011. The 3,200 sq. ft. Center will be more than twice the size of the USO of North Carolina Center located in Terminal 1.
RDU, in partnership with USO of North Carolina, opened its first Center in August 2004. Since that time, the Center has welcomed nearly 150,000 military service men, women and their families.
A ceremony marking the opening of the temporary USO of North Carolina Center in Terminal 2 will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19. The North Carolina National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team will present the colors at the event, which will take place in the ticketing lobby of Terminal 2.
