Signature Art Piece Installed in RDU’s Terminal 2

RDU Airport, NC – Local residents have left their mark on Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s Terminal 2.

Last week, RDU unveiled Signature Art, which features the signatures of visitors to the airport’s Terminal 2 open house celebration last year. The work was designed to capture the community’s excitement and support for Terminal 2, RDU’s first new terminal in nearly 20 years.

At the event, held Oct. 11, 2008, attendees were invited to sign their name to sheets of paper. Each signature was then electronically scanned and etched onto a piece of 6 ft. by 4 ft. sea foam glass. The artist, Dunne Dittman, interpreted each signature to represent sparkling jewels.

LED lighting illuminates the piece, which is encased in a contemporary stand made of reclaimed ambrosia maple and walnut.

The work was unveiled last Friday at RDU’s annual Customer Appreciation Day. The piece has been moved to its permanent home in the window front of the Heritage Room located in the Terminal 2 ticketing lobby.

Dittman is also the artist who created Earlier Flight, which hangs in RDU’s parking garage atrium.
