RDU Airport, NC – The reopening of Tunnel Road after a week of reconstruction will not open on Saturday as scheduled due to rains on Friday. Workers were in the process of putting primary and secondary asphalt on the newly renovated roadway when the rains began.

Based on weather conditions during the next several days, the road should open sometime next week. Until then, extra buses and the detour route will still be in place. Passengers destined for Park and Ride lots 2 and 4 are still reminded to plan an additional 20 minutes into their trip to accommodate for the detour.

“We are making excellent progress in the reconstruction of Tunnel Road,” explained Victor Malcolm, Tunnel Road Project Manager. “The rains are causing a temporary setback, but we will continue to work in between showers.”

As soon as construction is complete, the detour signs will be removed and traffic flow will return to its normal pattern.
