Airport Served 14.5 Million Travelers in 2023
RDU rang out 2023 by breaking the annual passenger traffic record set in 2019. More than 14.5 million travelers flew through RDU last year, compared to the previous high of 14.2 million. 2023 traffic topped 2019 by two percent and 2022 by more than 22 percent.
“We are grateful to the passengers who fueled record growth at RDU by choosing us for their travels in 2023,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We expect another year of growth and expansion in 2024 as we add new airlines, destinations and dining options that will elevate the airport experience for our guests.”
A boost in holiday traffic helped RDU end the year strong, with nearly 1.2 million passengers flying through the airport in December. RDU served more than 400,900 travelers between Dec. 15 and Jan. 2, an increase of 22 percent over 2022 and 1.5 percent over 2019. The airport also added four new airlines, 25 new destinations and 49 new routes in 2023.
