RDU Responds to Aircraft Incident Near Airport

RDU Airfield is Open; Emergency Crews are Responding

RDU Airport, N.C. – Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority was notified by FAA Air Traffic Control at approximately 7:25 p.m. Sunday that a small general aviation aircraft approaching the airport was lost on radar in the vicinity of Umstead State Park. RDU operations and firefighting units responded immediately, which closed the airport runway for a brief period of time. The airfield reopened at approximately 7:45 p.m.

“Search and rescue efforts are underway and will continue to be RDU’s top priority,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.
