New Lanes Will Keep Pace with Increased Passenger Volume
Raleigh-Durham International Airport has opened two new security checkpoint lanes in Terminal 2 to accommodate the increasing number of passengers flying through the airport. Passenger volume increased by 6.2 percent in April, with 571,694 passengers boarding flights at RDU for the month. The Terminal 2 checkpoint will now have a total of 12 lanes to better accommodate growth. The opening of the two new lanes arrives in time for the peak May – August travel season.
“The addition of the new checkpoint lanes will help RDU keep pace with tremendous growth and keep wait times down during the busy summer travel months,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We also encourage travelers to register for TSA Precheck to make your wait times even shorter.”
Ninety-five percent of passengers at RDU currently wait less than 30 minutes at security checkpoints, and 84 percent of passengers wait less than 15 minutes. Signing up for TSA Precheck further reduces your wait time in security lanes to typically less than 10 minutes. RDU has an application center conveniently located inside the airport where you can register for Precheck. Passengers must schedule an appointment and apply online at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.
“TSA is proud to partner with Raleigh-Durham International Airport to ensure the traveling public is safe and support the two additional security screening lanes at the Terminal 2 Checkpoint,” TSA Federal Security Director Beth G. Walker said. ”Terminal 2 Checkpoint will now have a total of 12 lanes to better accommodate travelers as passenger volumes continue to rise at RDU. ”
A new queueing formation is also being installed in Terminal 2 to make the security checkpoint line more organized and efficient.
