RDU Holds General Aviation Open House

WHAT

Raleigh-Durham International Airport General Aviation Open House Attendees are invited to take a walking tour of RDU’s new general aviation terminal and fixed-base operator hangars. The new facilities are part of the airport’s general aviation redevelopment program begun in 1996. Today, as the project nears completion, the revitalized GA area features new fixed base operator facilities, more than thirty acres of aircraft parking space and new corporate and executive hangars. The event will include a static aircraft display, which will feature a helicopter and aerobatic, corporate and private aircraft.

The terminal is located north of the airport terminals near the air traffic control tower.

Each month, over 4,500 general aviation flights take off and land at RDU.
Business aviation accounts for seventy percent of RDU’s general aviation flights.
The airport’s two fixed base operators are Piedmont Hawthorne Aviation and Southern Jet. The companies provide maintenance, fuel and airplane storage to general aviation operators.
The general aviation terminal features a restaurant, meeting facilities, pilot lounge and observation deck.
The terminal features 415 panels of exterior glass and a canopy that extends 65 feet from the building to accommodate arriving and departing passengers.
