RDU Ends Random Vehicle Searches

RDU Airport, NC – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority today closed its random vehicle inspection checkpoint. The changes are in response to the Department of Homeland Security lowering the national terror threat level from orange to yellow. The Authority closed the checkpoint at 4 p.m. after receiving a directive from the Transportation Security Administration.

The airport will also reopen access to the airport’s terminals from the US 70/Lumley Road entrance.

The airport began the random vehicle inspections on May 21. The TSA, the agency responsible for aviation security, currently requires RDU to conduct random searches of vehicles approaching the terminals only when the Homeland Security terror threat level is at orange or above.
