RDU Airport, NC – Today, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport emergency services department will begin a three-day live burn training. Conducted by the Cherry Point Marine Air Station, the training will feature a mobile aircraft fire simulator.
Local residents and passengers are advised that the simulator will produce flames but not smoke. The training will be held on a former runway on the east side of the airport and will not interfere with RDU’s daily operations.
RDU’s emergency services team will respond to the simulated aircraft fire using the airport’s fire equipment. A portion of the training will also include members from Raleigh fire stations that act as mutual aid first responders for aircraft emergencies.
The training fulfills a requirement for the Federal Aviation Administration. RDU’s emergency services crews participate in the training once a year.
