RDU Airport, NC – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority today announced a growth in passengers for the fourth month in a row. In June, the number of passengers departing Raleigh-Durham International Airport grew 5.8 percent over the same month last year. The number of passengers arriving at RDU rose 6.1 percent compared to the same period. The passenger activity numbers were released today at the monthly meeting of the Airport Authority board.
For the first six months of the year, the number of passengers departing RDU grew 2.1 percent, while the number of arriving passengers grew 1.9 percent.
The growth is attributed to airlines offering more seats in the market and to the U.S. Open, which brought many visitors to the Research Triangle Region during the first weeks of June.
RDU Receives FAA Grant for Terminal 1 Ramp Project
The Airport Authority accepted a grant from the FAA today in the amount of $1,293,030 for the airport’s $14 million Terminal 1 ramp project.
The grant will be used to fund a portion of the engineering services and construction of the project. As part of the modernization of Terminal 1, the airport replaced the ramp, which is the parking area for aircraft arriving and departing the terminal.
The Airport Authority has previously accepted two grant offers from the FAA for the project totaling $6.7 million and one grant offer from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Aviation in the amount of $1.1 million.
