Spirit’s low fares arrive just in time for peak travel season
Spirit Airlines launched nonstop service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to seven cities today with an inaugural flight from RDU to Orlando. The new low fare service begins just as the peak May – August travel season arrives.
“We are happy to welcome Spirit Airlines as the newest carrier connecting the Research Triangle community to the world,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “Spirit’s low fares and suite of nonstop destinations will add to the world-class airport experience business and leisure travelers expect from RDU.”
Spirit’s seven nonstop flights will operate daily service between RDU and Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), Orlando (MCO), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and New Orleans (MSY) with either the 145-seat Airbus A319 or 182-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. Spirit Airlines operates one of the newest fleets of Airbus aircraft in the Americas.

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport has 66 non-stop destinations and served more than 12.8 million passengers in 2018. Spirit is the 11th air carrier to serve RDU travelers.
