This afternoon, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board took action to approve the airport’s proposed master plan, Vision 2040. After almost two years of careful planning, study and consideration, we are prepared to advance our preferred alternative to the next stage: preparing a financial analysis, airport layout plan and implementation strategy.
This is not only an important step for RDU’s future growth and success; it’s an important step for our region. Vision 2040 affords RDU the opportunity to grow responsibly to serve our customers over the next 25 years.
And, what’s more, it will help connect more of our region to more of the world than ever before.
The Vision 2040 master plan calls for new runways, expanded terminals, more convenient rental car and parking facilities, connections to regional transit and general aviation growth. Overall, Vision 2040 calls for the best airport experience that our customers deserve.

As a next step, we’ll be hosting a public workshop at a yet-to-be determined date, to share more about implementation and financing for our master plan. Please check back here for more updates on timing and how you can get involved.
As we near the end of our planning horizon and begin to take steps toward improving your airport, we would like to say thank you. Thanks to our customers, the community and our Board for their involvement in the process. After all, it is your airport. Now, let’s fly… together.
