Passenger Traffic up 29% in October:
RDU served 1,143,837 passengers in October during what is traditionally a slow month for air travel. The monthly total represents an increase of 29% over October 2021.
“Signs of the recovery are everywhere at RDU, from increased traffic to new airlines and new destinations,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “As we head into the busy holiday travel season, travelers will have even more options to connect with the people and places they want to visit.”
Bahamasair Launch: A new route to the Caribbean launched from RDU Thursday when Bahamasair made its first flight to Freeport, Grand Bahama. The airline will fly year-round on Thursdays and Sundays on a 138-seat Boeing 737-700. Freeport is RDU’s 7th international destination and Bahamasair is the third new airline to begin service at RDU in 2022.
Paris Growth: One of RDU’s signature international routes is growing. Delta is expanding its direct flight to Paris just a few months after it returned. The flight has been offered four days a week but will move to daily service beginning in March. Delta will also fly the route on a larger aircraft that holds 234 passengers – an additional 18 seats per flight.
Frontier Expansion: Frontier Airlines is adding new seasonal service from RDU to Dallas-Fort Worth. The direct flight will be offered four times a week beginning next May. The airline launched or restarted eight routes at RDU in April and May 2022.
Sustainability Management Plan: The Airport Authority Board received an update Thursday about RDU’s first Sustainability Management Plan (SMP). The SMP serves as a foundational roadmap leading to more sustainable practices at the airport. RDU has engaged airport staff and stakeholders since 2018 through committee meetings and public workshops during the development of the plan. The Authority is accepting additional public comments prior to publication of the final plan. The SMP will be continuously reassessed and progress toward RDU’s sustainability goals will be published annually.
