Nonstop Route to the Philadelphia Region Starts This Summer:
RDU’s fastest-growing airline will add a new nonstop destination this summer in time for the airport’s busiest travel season. Avelo Airlines will begin service to Wilmington, Delaware in June – their 12th route at RDU. Wilmington Airport is conveniently located a short drive south of Philadelphia.
“We are pleased to welcome another nonstop route and new destination from Avelo, an airline that is growing as fast as RDU and the Raleigh-Durham region itself,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “Avelo’s latest expansion will provide our guests with even more low-cost options as they plan their summer travels.”
Avelo began service from RDU in May 2022 with one route and has since added 11 destinations, stationed two aircraft here and created more than 85 jobs.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Research Triangle – we’re back with more! This new route to the Wilmington / Philadelphia area exemplifies our ongoing commitment to bringing Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service to our RDU base. Getting to the four-state Delaware Valley region is now easier than ever.”
The Wilmington, DE route will start June 22 and fly twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. It joins Avelo’s other direct flights to Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN); Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT); Memphis, Tennessee (MEM); Rochester, New York (ROC) and seven Florida cities: Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Sarasota-Bradenton (SRQ), Melbourne (MLB) and West Palm Beach (PBI).
