Airport Authority Board Approves Purchase of Deicing Materials

Airport Restocks After Winter Storms:

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board approved a $241,770 purchase Tuesday of solid and liquid deicing materials to help RDU get through winter safely. RDU overstocked on both products prior to the winter season due to concerns about nationwide trucking delays. The Authority is securing additional supplies to keep the roadways and airfield clear after its stockpile was almost completely depleted during Winter Storms Izzy and Jasper.

“Maintaining our roads and runways is essential to ensuring safe travels during snow and ice events,” said Michael J. Landguth, President and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “This purchase restocks our supplies so we can stay ahead of winter weather and be sure we’re prepared for any storm that comes our way.”

The solid deicer purchased from Cryotech meets FAA-approved specifications for deicing and anti-icing compounds. It is frequently used for deicing of roads, bridges, parking garages and lots, sidewalks and terminal entrances, along with runways and taxiways. The company’s liquid runway deicer also meets FAA specifications for deicing and anti-icing and is used on runways and taxiways.
