RDU Continues Commitment to Street Pricing; Construction Update
RDU Airport, NC – This week’s highlights at Raleigh-Durham International Airport:
RDU Restaurant and Retail Program Continues Commitment to Street Pricing
When phase one of RDU’s Terminal 2 opens this fall, travelers will enjoy an expanded selection of shops and restaurants, including local favorites 42nd St. Oyster Bar and Carolina Ale House. The menus will feature not only favorites from these Triangle-area restaurants but also comparable menu pricing.
With the opening of Terminal 2, RDU will continue its commitment to street pricing. The program ensures that patrons are not charged more than they would be at the same restaurant or retail shop located outside the airport. Restaurants and shops that are unique to the airport will maintain pricing that does not exceed the range of prices charged by comparable vendors offering similar products.
To ensure compliance with the street pricing program, restaurants and shops are required twice a year to ensure their prices are comparable to those in the community.
Terminal 2 Construction Update
Construction crews are putting the final touches on Terminal 2. This fall, when phase one opens, Terminal 2 will be 550,000 square feet and will grow to 920,000 square feet in 2011. The terminal will be more than three times the size of Terminal C, which was built as a hub for American Airlines in the late 1980s and will be completely demolished early next year.
Today, more than 95 percent of RDU’s travelers begin or end their trip at RDU. As a result, RDU was in need of a terminal with a large airline check-area, security checkpoint and concourse. When fully completed, Terminal 2 will accommodate more than 11 million passengers per year.
Early next year, what is left of Terminal C will be demolished as crews make way for the Terminal 2 south concourse.
