Raleigh-Durham International Airport Hosts First Media Tour of New Airport Terminal

RDU Airport, NC – Officials at Raleigh-Durham International Airport today will give the media a sneak peak of its new $570 million terminal. The new terminal will feature the latest in airport design, technology and customer enhancements. The project is the largest in the airport’s history and will accommodate over 11 million passengers a year.

The new terminal will alleviate overcrowding in Terminal A, while positioning the airport for future growth. The number of passengers traveling through RDU is up seven percent compared to the same period last year. As a result, nearly 10 million passengers are expected to travel through RDU this year.

At over 900,000 square feet, the new terminal is designed to move passengers quickly through the airline check-in and security checkpoint processes. The airline check-in area will be 75,000 square feet and feature three ticketing islands with 20 traditional airline check-in counters. Eighty kiosks will be placed throughout the check-in area for electronic ticket holders.
