Liquid Carry-on Ban Continues at RDU

RDU Airport, NC – Additional security screening measures remain in effect at Raleigh-Durham International Airport following a mandate from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to eliminate liquids and gels from carry-on luggage.

The TSA security directive was issued Aug. 10, 2006 in response to the thwarted terror plot in Britain.

Banned carry-on items include all liquids, gels, creams, perfumes, cologne, cosmetics, shampoo, suntan lotion, toothpaste and other liquids of similar consistency on board all flights. Liquids include soft drinks, bottled water and other beverages.

There are two exemptions to this rule and these items must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

Passengers may bring baby formula, breast milk and juice in cups if a baby or small child is traveling.
Prescription medicine will be allowed on the aircraft if the name on the prescription bottle matches the passenger’s ticket. Insulin and other essential non-prescription medicine will be allowed.
Travelers are advised to pack light and leave liquids at home. Customers may return items to their vehicles; pack the liquids and gels in their checked luggage and/or dispose of the items.

Once travelers are past the checkpoint, beverages can be purchased but must be consumed prior to boarding the plane. Other liquid items that are not considered beverages (mouthwash, perfume, toothpaste, etc.) will not be sold.

Passengers traveling internationally will be required to check all carry-on luggage.

Additional enhanced security measures include mandatory removal of all footwear for screening. Passengers may also be randomly selected for additional screening at the boarding gates.

Customers will notice increased law enforcement presence throughout the airport and may experience longer lines at security checkpoints.
