RDU Airport, NC – JetBlue President Dave Barger visited Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Thursday, July 20 to launch JetBlue’s inaugural service from RDU to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The low-cost airline currently offers four non-stop flights per day between the two destinations. Barger announced that JetBlue will also add service from RDU to Boston’s Logan Airport on October 18. Barger noted that this was the first time that JetBlue had ever announced the addition of new service on the first day of operations at a new location.
RDU welcomed the arriving plane with a water cannon salute by RDU’s Emergency Services Department. Local dignitaries, JetBlue employees and passengers enjoyed refreshments as they welcomed the passengers arriving from New York.
JetBlue began operations at RDU with its brand-new Embraer 190 aircraft. This 100-seat aircraft offers customers comfortable all-leather seats and the most live entertainment options in the skies today, with 36 channels of DIRECTV programming and more than 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio.
JetBlue currently serves 41 locations, including RDU. JetBlue has been in operation for six years.
JetBlue is the first new carrier to arrive at RDU since the arrival of Independence Air in the summer of 2004.
