Refreshing RDU’s Parking Garage

Next time you park in RDU’s garage – whether you’re a Premier customer or love parking Central – you’ll probably notice hard hats and construction signs, particularly around the garage atrium. That’s because we have kicked off a year-plus campaign to improve the elevators, escalators and passenger walkways that help travelers get where they need to go even more efficiently.

RDU’s parking garage includes dozens of mechanical systems, including multiple banks of hydraulic and traction elevators and motorized walkways. Starting this week, construction crews will take individual elevator cars and shafts offline for necessary mechanical and electrical work. After a few weeks, the elevator will be ready again for service, and crews will move onto the next unit.

During each phase of work, travelers will find signage informing them about the construction currently underway. And working elevators will be just steps away, to ensure all our customers have the access they need.

The work to improve mechanical systems in RDU’s parking garage is expected to continue through early 2021. Keep an eye on our Refresh page to stay informed about where we’re at on the project, and others around the airport campus.

Meanwhile, RDU continues to capture zones of parking spaces in the garage to complete necessary paint repair work. The space reduction means that the garage may fill to capacity more frequently than normal, but good news: you can guarantee entry into Premier or Central by booking your parking in advance online at ParkRDU.com. While you’re there, make sure you’re registered to receive promotional discounts by email. Construction crews will pause the paint repair work in time for the busy holiday travel season, resuming once again in January.
