Baggage System Causing Delays at RDU Terminal 2

4:30 p.m. update: The mechanical issue that disabled the baggage conveyor system was repaired and the system was restored to full operation at 4 p.m.

Passengers Are Encouraged to Arrive Early for Departing Flights

Airport officials apologize for inconveniences caused by a baggage conveyor belt mechanical issue at RDU that is creating delays for passengers checking in at Terminal 2. A contingency plan is in place and staff is manually moving bags from check-in counters to the security screening point. The system is partially restored and processing bags but there is no estimate on when final repairs will be completed.

The airlines affected by the conveyor system issue are Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Frontier, JetBlue and United. Passengers on domestic flights are encouraged to check their bags at the curb when possible.

RDU always advises passengers to arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights, but today airport officials recommend passengers factor in additional time to check in, get through security and get to their gates.
