American, Spirit and Frontier Airlines Expand Non-Stop Service

Raleigh-Durham International Airport announced new destinations on American Airlines and Frontier Airlines this week and welcomed Spirit Airlines as the airport’s eleventh carrier. The expanded service adds 16 new flights at RDU and arrives just in time for the peak May – August travel season.

“The expansion of service from American and Frontier, along with Spirit’s entry into the market, demonstrate the tremendous growth at RDU and the popularity of the Research Triangle region,” said Michael Landguth, CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We are pleased to welcome the new flights from all three carriers as RDU continues to grow along with the region.”

American Airlines added a new daily non-stop flight from RDU to Phoenix (PHX) on Friday with the 150-passenger Airbus A320. American will continue to offer a number of connecting flights between RDU and Phoenix.

The low-fare carrier Spirit Airlines launched non-stop service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to seven cities on Thursday. Spirit’s seven new flights will operate daily between RDU and Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), Orlando (MCO), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and New Orleans (MSY) with either the 145-seat Airbus A319 or 182-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

Frontier Airlines added eight non-stop flights at RDU on Tuesday. The low-fare carrier started new service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Albany International Airport (ALB), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), John Glenn International Airport (CMH), Bradley International Airport (BDL), MacArthur Airport (ISP), Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Tampa International Airport (TPA).
