RDU Airport, NC – Raleigh-Durham International Airport, through an agreement with Dulles Airport Taxi, recently launched RDU Airport Taxi Service. The new program features on-demand service for passengers seeking transportation to and from the airport.

“Ground transportation is one of the most important services airports offer travelers,” said Gina Odom, RDU ground transportation manager. “Our goal has always been to provide passengers with professional and reliable taxi service. RDU Airport Taxi Service will allow us to meet this goal, while also providing ownership opportunities for local taxi drivers.”

The new taxi service will feature 85 sedans and sport utility vehicles available to the public seven days a week. All taxis are black with silver lettering and will accept credit cards. To ensure timely service, taxis will be waiting on the curb as passengers exit the terminals. The taxi booth for Terminal A is located north of the baggage claim area in the main terminal area. The taxi booth for Terminal C is located on the baggage claim level.

In October 2002, the Airport Authority chose Dulles Taxi of Arlington, Virginia to manage the new program. The company will provide the service through a concession agreement with the Authority.

“This taxi program will combine professional service with newer, cleaner vehicles,” said Farouq Massoud, owner of Dulles Airport Taxi, Inc. “The on-demand service will offer convenience to passengers seeking transportation to and from the airport. The result is the highest quality customer service, as well as more economic opportunities for drivers.”

The new program was developed using the taxi stand manager model to ensure ownership opportunities for taxi drivers. Of the 85 vehicles in the new system, taxi drivers in the previous RDU program will own 55 of the vehicles and lease 16. All drivers were given the opportunity to either own or lease a taxi.

All RDU Airport Taxi Service vehicles will be no more than two years old when they begin service. Maximum age of any vehicle in the system is five model years.
