Thanksgiving Travel Tips for a Record-Breaking Year

It’s been a record breaking year for RDU and Thanksgiving is no exception. With new nonstop flights and larger planes, nearly 250,000 people are expected through RDU Thanksgiving week, with peak passenger numbers projected for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday.

If you or a loved one are traveling through RDU this season, check out the travel tips below and visit RDU.com for our annual Holiday Travel Guide.

Book Parking Online
Before you head to the airport, wouldn’t it be nice to know you have guaranteed entry into your favorite ParkRDU facility? We think so too, that is why we are encouraging Triangle Travelers to book their parking online at least 24-hours in advance. Learn more and make your journey less stressful – book online today.

Arrive Early
Did you know that boarding begins 30-40 minutes before your scheduled flight time? Make sure you allow plenty of time for parking, check-in with your airline and security screening. And, don’t forget, a few extra minutes means you can relax with your favorite holiday treat and peruse over 15 new shops and experiences in Terminal 2!

Prepare for Security Screening
Are you bringing your famous Pumpkin Pie to Grandma’s this Thanksgiving? It may be time to brush up on what is allowed through the TSA checkpoint. Take a few minutes to learn more about TSA policies so you can keep your holiday spirits bright.

Picking Someone Up? Take advantage of our free Cell Lot.
If you are picking up loved ones this season, utilize our free Cell Lot to make curbside pickup a breeze. Follow roadway signs to the lot, then wait for that much anticipated text or phone call to let you know your loved one is waiting on the curb (after claiming bags).

From New Shops to Live Music, Your Journey Begins at RDU
We know the holidays can be stressful, but once you’re here and waiting for your flight, we hope that you relax and spend some time enjoying live music, great restaurants and bars, and a few of your favorite retailers.
