RDU to Reopen Parking Decks Near Terminal C

RDU Airport, NC – After gaining approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, RDU Airport is reopening 1200 parking spaces in the two parking decks across from Terminal C, beginning Friday morning, September 28. These spaces had been closed as a result of the FAA’s new security regulations prohibiting any vehicle from parking within 300 feet of the terminal buildings.

In order to reopen the 1200 spaces, RDU personnel will have to inspect each vehicle before it enters the area, including the trunk and interior of the vehicle.

The inspections will take place twice daily, in the early morning and mid afternoon to early evening. Once the spaces are full, these areas will be closed until 100-200 spaces have been vacated. Then they will be reopened for the next scheduled inspection, and the cycle of opening and then closing these areas will be repeated.

In order to keep the inspections moving smoothly, travelers should clear out their vehicles, including the trunk, before arriving at the airport and bring only the luggage they plan to take with them on their flights.

Resumed use of these spaces will increase the total number of parking spaces now available to the public to approximately 8,850. Vehicle inspections for the spaces in these two specific parking decks will continue indefinitely.
