Helping Customers and Community Fly!

At RDU, we love our customers. All of our customers. We also love and support the community around us. We’ve been excited to be a part of two projects recently that will improve the lives of those with physical challenges both on and off the airport.

WakeMed’s Wheel’s Up

More than 30 people attended the Wheel’s Up Workshop

Our team jumped into action after a physical therapist, part of WakeMed’s rehabilitation program, called RDU and asked about hosting a seminar for those use wheelchairs for everyday mobility.

Our Guest Services team synced up with United Airlines, TSA, G2 and Superior Services (skycaps) to share the airport experience from start to finish. From parking to boarding a flight, the team explained every touch point of the travel process.

What do our wheelchair customers care about most? Navigating the security checkpoint. TSA Cares is a new program to help travelers with challenges arrange for a TSA escort through the security screening process. To learn more, visit the TSA Cares website. Advanced notice is required.

Ashley Thomas (l), Executive Director of Bridge II Sports shares about the accessible launch with Kristie VanAuken, RDU VP of Communications/Community Affairs

For many years, RDU has provided land to Wake County for one of the area’s most popular recreation areas. With a new initiative by BridgeIISports, an accessible canoe and kayak launch ramp has been added at Lake Crabtree Park. Additional accessible restrooms have also been upgraded at the launch site.

Outdoor enthusiasts with disabilities can enjoy water sports like never before.  As a matter of fact the new amenities will enable elite level competition para-sports.

We’re proud to be a part of BridgeIISports’ dedication event on Saturday, September 24. Learn more about Bridge2Sports and the Paddle Lake Crabtree event.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is committed to serving all of our customers, including those with disabilities. Rock on, BridgeIISports!
