Alaska Airlines became the last legacy carrier to begin service at RDU when it launched nonstop service to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on October 1.
The daily nonstop service is aboard a B-737-800 aircraft. The route is timed to provide connections with 83 destinations throughout the Pacific Northwest. The route also gives convenient access to the Port of Seattle, from which many popular Alaskan cruises depart.
The addition of Alaska Airlines’ service to Seattle is the crowning achievement of a West Coast recruitment effort in recent years that has seen successful nonstop service established between RDU and San Francisco, Los Angeles and now Seattle.
Through Alaska Airline’s hub in Seattle, Research Triangle Region air travelers have convenient one-stop service to popular destinations such as Portland, Anchorage and many smaller cities throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.
Strong business ties exist between RDU and the Seattle region, with key industries including video gaming, technology and life sciences. The airline picked-up on another tie during the launch event, by operating its Russ Wilson-themed plane for its inaugural flight from RDU. Wilson is quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks and a former N.C. State University football player.
