Cargo Facilities
RDU has two cargo areas — North Cargo and South Cargo. All cargo carrier aircraft facilities are located in the North Cargo area across from Park & Ride 4. The major operators currently lease 95,600-square feet of cargo space at RDU. The South Cargo area supports the freight shipped via commercial passenger aircraft.
Cargo facilities at RDU include processing centers, regional offices and ramp space. RDU built its first air cargo building in 1972, and expanded the cargo operation facilities in the early 1990s. In 2002, FedEx doubled the size of its original building for additional processing capabilities. Several other cargo carriers recently expanded their on-airport facilities or moved into larger warehouse space.
