Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board governs the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The cities of Durham and Raleigh and the counties of Durham and Wake appoint two members each to an eight member board, which leads the Airport Authority. The board meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month.
Chairman, Durham County
Tommy Hunt is retired following a 30-year career with Crum and Forster Insurance Co. He also officiated football in the Atlantic Coast Conference for 27 years and held the position of supervisor of football officials for the ACC for 10 years.
He has previously served on numerous boards and commissions in both the City of Durham and Durham County, including the Durham County School Board and as a Durham County Commissioner. He volunteers at the Veterans Administration Hospital and currently serves as Chairman of the Durham County Stadium Authority.
Tommy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Vice Chairman, City of Raleigh
Geoff Elting is currently retired from both the State of North Carolina and Northern Telecom. During his career, Geoff also worked for IBM, Kaiser Foundation, Wachovia Bank and Nortel. Geoff served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.
Geoff earned his M.A. in Management from Golden Gate University and his B.S. in Business and Economics from the University of Tampa.
He has also served on various commissions and councils including the Raleigh City Council and the Raleigh Civic Center and Arts Commissions.
Secretary, City of Durham
Farad Ali worked more than 20 years as a banker and consultant in the private and non-profit sector. He is currently a senior vice president at the N.C. Institute of Minority Economic Development. Previously Farad Ali was a representative on Durham City Council.
He has served on numerous local boards and advisory committees including the Triangle United Way Board of Directors, John Avery Boys and Girls Club, Triangle YMCA Board of Directors and Duke University Hospital System Chancellor’s Community Board of Advisors.
Farad earned his B.S. in Finance from the School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his M.B.A. from Campbell University.
Richard (Dickie) Thompson
Treasurer, City of Raleigh
Richard (Dickie) Thompson has been with J.M. Thompson Company for 30 years.
During his time with JMT, Dickie has served as project executive/project manager on numerous projects throughout the state of North Carolina. In his current role as executive vice president and project manager/executive, Thompson serves as the senior liaison between the field and the office.
He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
John Kane is the Chairman and CEO of Kane Realty Corporation, a Raleigh development company most noted for the redevelopment of the North Hills area. John has received numerous awards including 2004 Business Leader of the Year by Business Leader Magazine and of the Top 10 To Watch by the Raleigh News and Observer in 2009.
John graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He also serves on the board of the N.C. Symphony, Research Triangle Regional Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital Advisory Board.
Robert Teer Jr.
City of Durham
Robb Teer Jr. worked for the Nello L. Teer Company, a transportation construction company, in Durham from 1967-1980. He was president of Teer Enterprises, a family real estate development company, from 1980-1985. In 1986 he started Teer Associates, which continued his career in construction and real estate development.
For 28 years, Teer was in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring in 1994 as a lieutenant colonel. He helped start and organize the USO at RDU.
Robb earned a B.S. in Business Administration from East Carolina University
Clay Wheeler is a partner with the law firm Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP and a senior lecturing fellow at the Duke University School of Law. He previously served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Clay received a Bachelor’s of Arts in 1992 from Williams College and a Juris Doctor from the Duke University School of Law in 1997.
Terry Yeargan has more than 30 years of construction services experience. At DPR Construction, Inc., a national construction services firm, he specializes in advanced technology, healthcare, life sciences and corporate office construction.
Terry has served on a variety of boards including the Willow Springs Elementary and Fuquay-Varina Middle and High School PTAs, the East Carolina University Educational Foundation and Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
Terry is a member of the American Management Association. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration-Marketing from ECU.
